Current and former academic positions 
Since 1 September 2017, I am Professor of Politics & Governance at the Utrecht University School of Governance (USG). As of 1 September 2018, I’ll also be chairing part of USG’s Department of Public Governance, become a member of USG’s Executive Board, and become a member of USG’s research board.

Before joining Utrecht University, I was Professor of Political Decision-Making at the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. I also served as the Director of Research of that department, as Head of Studies Politics of the BSc program Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE), and in that capacity was also a member of the management team the program’s John Stuart Mill College. Prior to my appointment as full professor, I was Assistant and Associate Professor in Comparative Politics and PhD candidate in the Department of Political Science of the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

Main recent research project
I was the principal investigator and project leader of the 5-year research program HIGH-RISK POLITICS, funded by a VIDI grant from the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) that ran between 2012-2017. Other executive positions & memberships (selection)
I am senior associate editor of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia of Political Decisionmaking, an exciting project that is part of the Oxford Research Encyclopedia Politics’ series. I am also a senior member of the Netherlands Institute of Government, of which I am also a board member; former board member of the Dutch Association of Political Science (2009-2015); member of the Advisory Board of Compasss, member of the working group Algorithmic Analytic Approaches of the Qualitative Transparency Deliberations, member of the Social Sciences Council of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts & Sciences (KNAW), and member of the Young Academy (De Jonge Akademie) of the KNAW.
